Today marks the beginning of the holiest and most sacred week of the year. Holy Week is upon us and Passion Sunday brings with it the commemoration of our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, and of the bringing about the New Covenant, as the Lord begins his passion in the Garden of Gethsemane. We are called to meet Him in that place, to accompany Him as He also accompanies us. Holy Week is important to us as Catholic Christians because we enter into the mysterious and sacred at the same time, while contemplating the Lord’s passion, death, and resurrection, the Paschal Mystery and the one greatest event of all time, that brings a sinner to newness of life. Holy Week is not about what we say, or what we may think, but is about all that we do.

Today we listen to the Lord’s passion in awe of the abundant gift of salvation and the release of prisoners who now are no longer captive to sin, and the shackles and chains fall by the wayside giving way to newness of life in being free from sin and death! Mark this week as truly magnificent and holy, taking care we do not engage it as just another week.

Let us enter the week willing to turn off the noise and distractions and participate in all that Holy Week has to offer, by making it the pilgrimage and retreat it really is. Begin the process today, attend daily Mass, meditation, or stations of the cross. Participate in the Sacred Triduum, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. It’s important that we also help out by putting the holy in Holy Week; it’s up to us to honor the Lord and to venerate His Holy Cross. You will see in the bulletin the schedule of all of the Holy Week events planned.

Come and enjoy, especially as we receive the blessed presence of our dear Bishop John P. Dolan who joins us for Mass on Holy Thursday for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and a special tribute celebration of the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

Domingo de Pasión

Hoy comienza la semana más santa y sagrada del año. La Semana Santa ya está aquí y el Domingo de Pasión trae consigo la conmemoración de la entrada de nuestro Señor en Jerusalén y la instauración de la Nueva Alianza, al comenzar su pasión en el Huerto de Getsemaní. Estamos llamados a encontrarnos con Él en ese lugar, a acompañarlo como Él nos acompaña. La Semana Santa es importante para nosotros como cristianos católicos porque nos adentramos en lo misterioso y lo sagrado al mismo tiempo, al contemplar la pasión, muerte y resurrección del Señor, el Misterio Pascual y el acontecimiento más grande de todos los tiempos, que trae al pecador a una nueva vida. La Semana Santa no se trata de lo que decimos o pensamos, sino de todo lo que hacemos.

Hoy escuchamos la pasión del Señor con asombro ante el abundante don de la salvación y la liberación de los prisioneros que ya no están cautivos del pecado, y las cadenas caen al suelo, dando paso a una nueva vida al ser libres del pecado y la muerte. Marquemos esta semana como verdaderamente magnífica y santa, cuidando de no considerarla una semana más.

Entremos en la semana dispuestos a apagar el ruido y las distracciones y participar en todo lo que la Semana Santa nos ofrece, convirtiéndola en la peregrinación y retiro que realmente es. Comience el proceso hoy, asistiendo a la misa diaria, a la meditación o al vía crucis. Participe en el Triduo Sagrado, el Jueves Santo, el Viernes Santo y la Pascua. Es importante que también ayudemos a poner lo sagrado en la Semana Santa; de nosotros depende honrar al Señor y venerar su Santa Cruz. Verá en el boletín el calendario de todos los eventos planificados para la Semana Santa.

Vengan y disfruten, especialmente al recibir la bendita presencia de nuestro querido Obispo John P. Dolan, quien nos acompaña en la Misa del Jueves Santo para la Misa de la Cena del Señor y una celebración especial en homenaje al sacerdocio de Jesucristo.
