Today’s gospel is a continuation of the message Jesus addressed to the various people he encountered including the rich man. Jesus consistently says do not be afraid and get your priorities straight and your affairs in order sooner than later, for you know not the hour when the bridegroom shall return. He also says to keep our priorities straight, and not to be too consumed with the things of the world, do not seek to fulfill one’s happiness with temporal things but seek the Lord always in the things of heaven.

One of the biggest gestures for us as humans is to think in terms of eternal things and the promise of our eternal salvation. Redemption is real and everyone is worthy to be redeemed, all that is needed is our desire. How do we desire the Lord every day, and is He our heart’s true desire? The urgency and message of preparedness and awakening is not a suggestion, but a mandate from the Lord to be vigilant and ready for we do not know the hour of his return, but he is coming. How does knowing this cause us to respond to Jesus?

After all Jesus always does what he says he is going to do, and He does it. He said he would rise again after all and did so. Our response is always one of Trust, Love, and Obedience because Jesus calls us to respond to Him in three distinct ways so that we might encounter Him even more profoundly. Trust in the Lord brings us peace to our heart because we have our reliance on Him, and in doing so we bring ourselves into the fold of the Good Shepherd.

Love of the Lord allows us to remain in unity with Him, affirming our oneness of being made in God’s image and likeness. Being created in this way, we long to emulate the master. Obedience of God solidifies our trust and love by the fact of our acceptance of His commands, living in the balance of His will- which is the stuff saints are made of. To seek the will of God in our lives means we are open to obeying Him, being docile to His ways and not ours.

El evangelio de hoy es una continuación del mensaje que Jesús dirigió a las diversas personas con las que se encontró, incluyendo al hombre rico. Jesús insiste en que no tengan miedo y que ordenen sus prioridades y sus asuntos cuanto antes, porque no saben la hora del regreso del novio. También nos dice que mantengamos nuestras prioridades en orden y que no nos dejemos llevar demasiado por las cosas del mundo; que no busquemos la felicidad en las cosas temporales, sino que busquemos siempre al Señor en las cosas del cielo.

Uno de los gestos más importantes para nosotros como seres humanos es pensar en términos de lo eterno y en la promesa de nuestra salvación eterna. La redención es real y todos son dignos de ser redimidos; solo se necesita nuestro deseo. ¿Cómo deseamos al Señor cada día? ¿Es Él el verdadero deseo de nuestro corazón? La urgencia y el mensaje de preparación y despertar no son una sugerencia, sino un mandato del Señor para estar vigilantes y listos, pues desconocemos la hora de su regreso, pero él viene. ¿Cómo nos impulsa a responder a Jesús el saber esto?

Después de todo, Jesús siempre hace lo que dice que va a hacer, y lo hace. Dijo que resucitaría después de todo, y así lo hizo. Nuestra respuesta siempre es de Confianza, Amor y Obediencia, porque Jesús nos llama a responderle de tres maneras distintas para que podamos encontrarnos con Él aún más profundamente. La confianza en el Señor nos trae paz a nuestro corazón porque confiamos en Él, y al hacerlo nos unimos al rebaño del Buen Pastor.

El amor del Señor nos permite permanecer en unidad con Él, afirmando nuestra unidad de ser hechos a imagen y semejanza de Dios. Al ser creados de esta manera, anhelamos emular al maestro. La obediencia a Dios consolida nuestra confianza y amor al aceptar sus mandatos, viviendo en el equilibrio de su voluntad, que es la esencia de los santos. Buscar la voluntad de Dios en nuestras vidas significa estar abiertos a obedecerlo, siendo dóciles a sus caminos y no a los nuestros.
