HAPPY BIRTHDAY…..have you wished your fellow parishioners or people from other Catholic Parishes a happy birthday? Today is the Birthday of Our Catholic Faith.

This is Pentecost Sunday, when the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles as tongues of fire and this event marked the birth of the Church and empowered the apostles to preach. During Pentecost, the disciples, filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke in diverse languages, astonishing a multinational crowd in Jerusalem as each heard God’s words in their own tongue.

Just imagine attending Mass in another language other than your own and the person sitting next to you does not speak your language or the language that the Mass is in, yet you both understand every word that is being said. Kind of spooky right? That must have been how the people felt at that time. We are also told that the disciples began to speak in different tongues. Here, speaking in tongues seems to refer to speaking in different languages as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Today, we often associate “tongues” with unintelligible utterings of the Holy Spirit. Could it be that what the apostles proclaimed was unintelligible except to those who were open to the Spirit?

We do know that it was the Holy Spirit that enabled the disciples to be understood and believed by those who heard them. Did you ever wonder why we hear the words “peace be with you” so many times at Mass? These are the words that tell us to be the fruit of a life lived in the Holy Spirit while serving God for the sake of the world. It is one thing to feel peaceful because we know that Jesus is with us. It’s quite a challenge, though, to feel peaceful when telling others about Jesus, for we feel inadequate and overwhelmed, and we’re afraid of being persecuted and rejected. That’s why He gave us His Holy Spirt.

The Holy Spirit gives us whatever we need for doing the work that the Father asks of us, and thus we are not inadequate, nor does God fail to comfort us when people reject us. We should have an inner peace that does not depend on what happens, nor on what others do or don’t do to us, nor on how they respond to us when we try to share with them. Peace is the result of being alive in the Spirit and peace is the Spirit being active within us. Are you feeling unpeaceful? Do you need to forgive someone, or do you need to forgive yourself? You might want to consider going to a spiritual director or counselor for help in finding all the peace that Jesus wants you to have.

El cumpleaños de nuestra fe católica

FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS… ¿Les han felicitado a sus feligreses o a personas de otras parroquias católicas? Hoy es el cumpleaños de nuestra fe católica.

Este es el Domingo de Pentecostés, cuando el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los apóstoles en forma de lenguas de fue go. Este evento marcó el nacimiento de la Iglesia y les dio poder para predicar. Durante Pentecostés, los discípulos, llenos del Espíritu Santo, hablaron en diversos idiomas, asombrando a una multitud multinacional en Jerusalén, pues cada uno escuchaba la palabra de Dios en su propia lengua.

Imaginen asistir a misa en un idioma distinto al suyo y que la persona sentada a su lado no hable su idioma ni el de la misa, pero ambos entiendan cada palabra. Un poco inqui etante, ¿verdad? Así debió sentirse la gente en ese momento. También se nos dice que los discípulos comenzaron a hablar en diferentes lenguas. Aquí, hablar en lenguas parece referirse a hablar en diferentes idiomas según el Espíritu les permitía proclamar. Hoy en día, solemos asociar las "lenguas" con expresiones ininteligibles del Espíritu Santo. ¿Será que lo que proclamaron los apóstoles era ininteligible excepto para quienes estaban abiertos al Espíritu?

Sabemos que fue el Espíritu Santo quien permitió que los discípulos fueran comprendidos y creídos por quienes los escuchaban. ¿Te has preguntado alguna vez por qué escuchamos tantas veces en la misa la frase "la paz sea con ustedes"? Estas palabras nos instan a ser fruto de una vida vivida en el Espíritu Santo, sirviendo a Dios por el bien del mundo. Una cosa es sentir paz porque sabemos que Jesús está con nosotros. Sin embargo, es todo un reto sentir paz al hablar de Jesús, pues nos sentimos incapaces y abrumados, y tememos ser perseguidos y rechazados. Por eso nos dio su Espíritu Santo.

El Espíritu Santo nos da todo lo que necesitamos para realizar la obra que el Padre nos pide, y por eso no somos in capaces, ni Dios deja de consolarnos cuando nos rechazan. Debemos tener una paz interior que no dependa de lo que suceda, ni de lo que otros nos hagan o dejen de hacer, ni de cómo nos respondan cuando intentamos compartir con ellos. La paz es el resultado de estar vivos en el Espíritu, y la paz es el Espíritu actuando en nosotros. ¿Te sientes intran quilo? ¿Necesitas perdonar a alguien o a ti mismo? Quizás quieras considerar acudir a un director espiritual o consejero para que te ayude a encontrar la paz que Jesús desea para ti.

Así que, mis queridos feligreses, les digo: «La paz sea con ustedes». (PC)
