On the fourth Sunday of Advent, we testify to LOVE. What is love? So many ideas of what love is, yet the world is in most need of love. Love is married bliss, love is a pop music ballad, or a country music song. So many things have been said of love. It's a perplexing mystery, but we know we crave it and rejoice when we find it. Who does not want to be loved, but at times we can be stingy with this most wonderful gift of God. It's easy to love the people that love us but what about those that don't love us back, those are the hardest to love, yet we are called to love them anyway.

How might we love the people that talk about us behind our backs, or who express their disdain at every turn? They don't speak to us or see us, is that the proper thing to do, is that demonstrative of spiritual maturity? Probably not. An old Irish piece of wisdom therapy would advise us that it's awfully hard, "it tis', maybe Lovin' em, have ya tried that?" We must love them when they least deserve it, because that is when they most need it.

Our journey this Advent has taken us far and wide, moving us through Hope, Peace, and Joy, and giving us Love, without leaving these fruits behind , but rather allowing them to be the foundation of who we are with our convictions, our choices, and our desires of the heart.

Love is the spirit of Jesus within us, and like all four pillars of Advent these fruits of the Holy Spirit make us the profound believers that we are. The challenge is to love as Jesus loved. We must stretch ourselves in order to love the people that are hard to love. The beauty about the fruit of love is that it often covers a multitude of sin, love assists us in allowing us to see others as children of God.

In His final act of love, Jesus embraced the cross and it was in love that God gave him to the world in the first place, conceived in love of the Holy Spirit by way of the vessel of the Virgin Mary, and brought forth in love to all the world. Make a choice to love, even when it is least popular or even when it hurts.

Elige el amor

En el cuarto domingo de Adviento, damos testimonio del AMOR. ¿Qué es el amor? Hay tantas ideas sobre lo que es el amor, y sin embargo, el mundo necesita amor más que nunca. El amor es la dicha conyugal, el amor es una balada de música pop o una canción de música country. Se han dicho tantas cosas sobre el amor. Es un misterio desconcertante, pero sabemos que lo anhelamos y nos regocijamos cuando lo encontramos. ¿Quién no quiere ser amado? Pero a veces podemos ser tacaños con este maravilloso don de Dios. Es fácil amar a quienes nos aman, pero ¿qué pasa con quienes no nos corresponden? Son los más difíciles de amar, y sin embargo, estamos llamados a amarlos de todos modos.

¿Cómo podemos amar a quienes hablan mal de nosotros a nuestras espaldas o expresan su desprecio a cada paso? No nos hablan ni nos miran, ¿es eso lo correcto? ¿Es eso una muestra de madurez espiritual? Probablemente no. Un antiguo proverbio irlandés nos aconsejaría que es muy difícil, "sí, lo es, ¿quizás amarlos? ¿Lo has intentado?". Debemos amarlos cuando menos lo merecen, porque es cuando más lo necesitan.

Nuestro camino en este Adviento nos ha llevado lejos, guiándonos a través de la Esperanza, la Paz y la Alegría, y dándonos Amor, sin dejar atrás estos frutos, sino permitiendo que sean el fundamento de quienes somos, con nuestras convicciones, nuestras elecciones y los deseos de nuestro corazón.

El amor es el espíritu de Jesús en nosotros, y como los cuatro pilares del Adviento, estos frutos del Espíritu Santo nos convierten en los creyentes profundos que somos. El desafio es amar como Jesús amó. Debemos esforzarnos para amar a las personas que son difíciles de amar. La belleza del fruto del amor es que a menudo cubre una multitud de pecados; el amor nos ayuda a ver a los demás como hijos de Dios.

En su último acto de amor, Jesús abrazó la cruz, y fue por amor que Dios lo entregó al mundo, concebido por amor del Espíritu Santo a través de la Virgen María, y traído al mundo por amor para todos. Elige amar, incluso cuando no sea lo más popular o incluso cuando duela.
