Advent is a time of New Beginnings, to turnover a New Leaf, to be renewed, blessed, and to change our hearts and minds to work for the good of all in Christ. Our Catholic Faith has some remarkable ways of growing spiritually, as this Advent we seek to put our hearts in motion. Yes, our hearts and minds must be in synch with Christ at all times, otherwise we lose our way very quickly.

Have you ever started out on the wrong foot on anything in life, those times when first impressions need to be a redo, because maybe we make judgements about things or people too quickly, we believe narratives that are often retold in ignorance? We find ourselves not living up to our true Christian potential, often stumbling over the hole under our nose, our mouth, which is designed only to edify God in everything, yet not everything that comes out of it does. We know we are human and that some things spoken are never worth repeating, because they are only meant to scandalize, divide, and tear down their target for which none of us wants to be.

Things rooted in fury, hate, jealousy, doubt, and fear are things that never come from God, because they are rooted in sin. Advent challenges us to be receptive to the gift of redemption, but in doing so we must bring forth those human aspects of struggle that must be transformed. We are a work in progress after all, and perfection is a daily pilgrimage. Advent is a time to work on our own selves, our behavior, our sins, and our integrity of spirit that strives to always model the love of Christ by our actions. Advent also is a time of great preparation and even more a penitential time of reparation, for the things we regret, and the past behaviors we have committed, that were not necessarily a reflection of Jesus. We've all been there and may even be there now. Advent prepares us for the reality of our redemption. Advent helps us change our mind and purify our hearts.

Here at St. Catherine Laboure we are going to allow this Advent to be an opportunity of growth and spiritual maturity, by helping collectively complete the manger in time for the coming of the Christ-child.

What will you bring to the Manger as gift? It's going to take effort and work in order to bring to the manger our struggles, while managing to work them out through Corporal Works of Mercy, anticipating hope, engaging charity, kindness, grace, and love by putting our hearts in motion as to what we say and do, always reflecting the love of Jesus. Let us build the manger together, so the Christ-child may come to us and change us for the better.

Nuevos Comienzos

El Adviento es un tiempo de nuevos comienzos, para empezar una nueva vida, para renovarnos, ser bendecidos y para cambiar nuestros corazones y mentes para trabajar por el bien de todos en Cristo. Nuestra fe católica tiene algunas maneras notables de crecer espiritualmente, ya que en este Adviento buscamos poner nuestros corazones en movimiento. Sí, nuestros corazones y mentes deben estar en sintonía con Cristo en todo momento, de lo contrario, perdemos el rumbo muy rápidamente.

¿Alguna vez has comenzado con el pie izquierdo en algo en la vida, esos momentos en los que las primeras impresiones necesitan ser rehechas, porque tal vez juzgamos las cosas o las personas demasiado rápido, creemos narrativas que a menudo se repiten en la ignorancia? Nos encontramos a nosotros mismos sin estar a la altura de nuestro verdadero potencial cristiano, a menudo tropezando con el agujero debajo de nuestra nariz, nuestra boca, que está diseñada solo para edificar a Dios en todo, pero no todo lo que sale de ella lo hace. Sabemos que somos humanos y que algunas cosas dichas nunca vale la pena repetirlas, porque solo buscan escandalizar, dividir y derribar a quienes son objeto de sus ataques, algo que ninguno de nosotros quiere ser.

Las cosas arraigadas en la furia, el odio, los celos, la duda y el miedo nunca provienen de Dios, porque tienen su raíz en el pecado. El Adviento nos reta a ser receptivos al don de la redención, pero al hacerlo debemos sacar a la luz esos aspectos humanos de la lucha que deben ser transformados. Después de todo, somos una obra en progreso, y la perfección es una peregrinación diaria. El Adviento es un tiempo para trabajar en nosotros mismos, nuestro comportamiento, nuestros pecados y nuestra integridad de espíritu que se esfuerza por modelar siempre el amor de Cristo con nuestras acciones. El Adviento también es un tiempo de gran preparación y, aún más, un tiempo penitencial de reparación por las cosas de las que nos arrepentimos y los comportamientos pasados que hemos cometido, que no fueron necesariamente un reflejo de Jesús. Todos hemos pasado por eso y quizás incluso estemos pasando por eso ahora. El Adviento nos prepara para la realidad de nuestra redención. Nos ayuda a cambiar de mentalidad y purificar nuestro corazón.

Aquí en Santa Catalina Labouré, vamos a permitir que este Adviento sea una oportunidad de crecimiento y madurez espiritual, ayudando colectivamente a completar el pesebre a tiempo para la llegada del Niño Jesús. ¿Qué traerás al pesebre como regalo? Requerirá esfuerzo y trabajo llevar al pesebre nuestras luchas, mientras logramos resolverlas mediante las Obras Corporales de Misericordia, anticipando la esperanza, involucrando la caridad, la bondad, la gracia y el amor, poniendo en movimiento nuestros corazones en lo que decimos y hacemos, reflejando siempre el amor de Jesús. Construyamos juntos el pesebre, para que el Niño Jesús venga a nosotros y nos transforme para mejor.

Que la paz del Adviento sea tuya.
