In these first Sundays of Lent since Ash Wednesday, we have come from being marked in the cross, accepting our mortality, and deciding to be the disciple Christ is calling us to be, and following him. Today there is a shift, as we enter the transfiguration, and we ascend the mountain to witness the Lord in all his glory. Scripture has a way of skipping us through these aspects of Christ's life, not concerned so much about chronological order, but the order of illumination of how such parts of the Gospel coincide with the context of the season of faith we are in, and how they illuminate in us the message of redemption.

What is the point of Lent? Lent moves us toward transformation, like what happened as Jesus showed his transfiguration. It is our intent to strive for a deeper more fervent conversion, by our Lenten observances, yet as the average person goes, authentic conversion is meant to change us deep within, and exteriorly as well. We as humans fail miserably at this prospect in doing it alone, and must rely heavily upon grace so that we move to the level of conversion of the saints.

Remember not one of us has arrived, we remain on this journey for a life time, knowing our perfection is only achieved when we finally see the God of our longing face to face. Stay the narrow path, remain focused on Christ and desiring to conform ourselves to the cross, for in doing so we conform to him. Hold you cross tightly, keeping close upon your heart and you will see just how redemptive the work of the Lord really is.

La Transfiguración

En estos primeros domingos de Cuaresma desde el Miércoles de Ceniza, hemos pasado de ser marcados en la cruz, aceptar nuestra mortalidad y decidir ser el discípulo que Cristo nos llama a ser, y seguirlo. Hoy hay un cambio, al entrar en la transfiguración y ascender al monte para presenciar al Señor en toda su gloria. Las Escrituras nos guían a través de estos aspectos de la vida de Cristo, sin preocuparse tanto por el orden cronológico, sino por cómo estas partes del Evangelio coinciden con el contexto de la época de fe en la que nos encontramos y cómo iluminan en nosotros el mensaje de redención.

¿Cuál es el propósito de la Cuaresma? Nos impulsa hacia la transformación, como sucedió cuando Jesús mostró su transfiguración. Nuestra intención es esforzarnos por lograr una conversión más profunda y ferviente mediante nuestras observancias cuaresmales; sin embargo, como cualquier persona, la conversión auténtica está destinada a transformarnos profundamente, tanto interior como exteriormente. Como seres humanos, fracasamos miserablemente ante esta perspectiva al hacerlo solos, y debemos depender en gran medida de la gracia para alcanzar el nivel de conversión de los santos.

Recuerden que ninguno de nosotros ha llegado a su destino; permanecemos en este camino toda la vida, sabiendo que nuestra perfección solo se alcanzará cuando finalmente veamos cara a cara al Dios que anhelamos. Permanezcan en el camino angosto, enfocados en Cristo y deseando conformarnos a la cruz, porque al hacerlo nos conformamos a él. Aferren su cruz con fuerza, manteniéndola cerca de su corazón, y verán cuán redentora es realmente la obra del Señor.
